Against Abuse, Inc. is a private non-profit organization that has provided social services in Pinal County, Arizona since 1981. We serve survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, stalking and sex trafficking. AAI's philosophy is to provide trauma informed, culturally responsive services that are person and family centered, strength based, and choice driven. We operate two crisis shelters: one in the City of Maricopa and one in Casa Grande where we "WRAP" survivors with the services and supports they need. For those who don't need or want to be in a shelter, we provide mobile and community-based services. We have offices in Casa Grande, the City of Maricopa and San Manuel. Using the Housing First model, we help survivors avoid returning to their abuser and even homelessness through our Transitional Living and Rapid Rehousing services so they can live in their own homes. For families where the children have been legally removed, we coordinate and supervise visits with family members and their children with the ultimate goal being family reunification. Many victims need a safe place for their pets while they are in shelter. We operate a volunteer-powered Animal Safe Home Network where their pets can be temporarily fostered in pet-loving homes. Often a victim leaves their abuser(s) with only the clothes on their back. We operate a thrift store to make sure those we serve have the things they need, such as clothing, furniture, and household items. AAI's business philosophy focuses on the concepts of satisfaction, effectiveness, efficiency, and access to services. We strive to: ensure that effective services make a positive impact on those we serve; to provide those services efficiently, making the most of available funding and resources; ensure those we serve to be highly satisfied with our services and supports; and those we serve have access to the services and supports they need. In FY 20-21, we provided 22,789 bed-nights for women, men and children; 14,262 of those being through our Transitional Living and Rapid Rehousing Services; we provided 12,168 hours of Supervised Visitation; we provided 6,300 hours of community-based services and supports. Volunteers provided 4,780 hours, 240 of those for our Animal Safe Home Network. Through our services, AAI has made a positive impact on those we serve: 91% felt their safety had improved; 88% felt their support system improved; 88% felt they know how to better plan for their safety; 87% felt they had a better understanding of domestic and sexual violence; 85% felt believed and not alone; 82% felt they were regaining control of their lives, through increased feelings of wellbeing and having more knowledge about the resources available to them. We have made great strides through the years and. as long as there is a need, we will continue to do what is needed to make a positive impact in the lives of those we serve.
AAI provides individuals with an opportunity to provide input and feedback through initial, interim and post services satisfaction surveys. Through them we have received feedback such as: Being at Against Abuse has been a good experience for me and my family because I can leave here with a sense of knowledge, confidence and strong determination more than I had before. Staff and members are very kind. Staff is wonderful and they help us the best they can - they go the extra mile! The staff should be highly commended for their knowledge and skill level which are demonstrated by a more homogeneous interaction among participants. The staff are God's angels! I am very grateful for the shelter and want to move forward. I am grateful there is a program that assists people like me. I appreciate the help and safety. This shelter has made me very happy. I am very thankful to be here. Against Abuse has truly been an awesome place to be and they've helped me more than words can describe, so from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU! Great services. Excellent Services. Thank you for supporting me. I feel blessed since I've been here. I feel safe. I have been given invaluable knowledge. I have been given resources and guidance and peer support. Thank you so much! Staff are very compassionate - I got all the compassion and my needs met. I appreciate and am grateful for the opportunity to be here. Staff is very helpful and caring. If I didn't have access to AAI, I would never feel like my kids were safe with their father. The Center is a place where my children enjoy going and look forward to. It means parents can give their kids time with their non-custodial parent without fear. I am so grateful my children have a safe place to visit their father. My daughter will never see the abusive side of her dad because of these services. I can't imagine a better gift for her...
