Unscrewed Theater

Unscrewed Theater is dedicated to teaching and showcasing the art of improvisational theater as well as other unique forms of live entertainment. We foster a safe and supportive atmosphere in which artists can grow and explore their talent. We provide a venue to showcase these talents and to enrich our community through the art of improvisational-based performance.

The Story of a Theater

Once upon a time in Tucson, Arizona, there was a group of improv comedy wizards known as "Not Burnt Out Just Unscrewed." These folks were so hilarious they could make a cactus laugh. And let me tell you, that's no easy feat!

So in 2014, NBOJU decided to start its own theater company. They called it Unscrewed Theater because they had a lot of screws loose and also because "Not Burnt Out Just Unscrewed Theater" was too long to fit on a business card. And because they were good people, they decided to make it a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Because nothing says "I'm hilarious," like tax-exempt status.

And boy, did they deliver the laughs. They've now added a variety of funny shows, including sketch comedy, stand-up, and of course, improv. They even have three additional house teams - Comic Chaos, From The Top, and The Big Daddies. Because what's a theater without house teams? It's just a room with chairs, that's what.

Today, Unscrewed Theater is still going strong. They've made people snort with laughter, had a few celebrity guests, and been on TV. But they haven't forgotten their roots - they still perform for the fun of the game and the free snacks. If you're ever in Tucson and you need a good laugh, be sure to check them out. They'll unscrew your funny bone, and you'll never be the same again.
