Hoofsnhorns Farm Sanctuary

A nonprofit organization

Hoofsnhorns Farm Sanctuary is deeply committed to helping animals who come to us in need. ABUSED,ABANDONED, ORPHANED or just WORN OUT. We open our hearts and sanctuary to welcome those with "special needs", and those who have NO OTHER OPTION..We see VALUE in each of God's creatures and provide what they need to heal and to live a safe and contented life. Each of these innocent, amazing souls have one thing in common: EVERYONE ELSE GAVE UP on them. Here they're treated with love.

We are a small mother-daughter TEAM who helped animals in need in our community-behind the scenes-for more than twenty years before becoming a 501(c)3 nonprofit Sanctuary in March 2013.Our collective years of medical training and practical, real-world experience have given us the skills necessary for the many levels of care the animals require. Shelby has a background as a healthcare professional responding to calls for medical help (Paramedic) plus Legal & Retail Management, while Sidney's background is medical, veterinary and business management. Our 1st priority has always been to meet the specific needs of each animal here. We believe healthy food, protective pens and enclosures, veterinarian care, and lifestyle enrichment tools (like our goat mountain!) each play an important role in providing a safe and loving home for all those in our care.

Some of our residents were highly valued earlier in their lives. But as they grew bigger, had babies, started to be more care, or just weren't as much 'fun' as they were when they were smaller, people gave up on them. We've rescued animals from horrible conditions. Dumped in the desert, abandoned on the side of the road, and kept in too small cages are truly horrific lives some of these innocent animals had to endure before finding a home with us.
And now they still have one thing in common: they are all loved and treated with kindness at Hoofsnhorns.

We have been fortunate to partner with other Rescue Organizations throughout Arizona and work closely with our community and surrounding areas to help as many animals as we can. We value being a community resource for rescuing animals in need and for assisting others who rescue or treat animals. Being a source of advice by helping others find medical treatment for their animals and teaching them about appropriate foods and what safe animal enclosures and pens need to be has led to strong relationships with veterinarians, other rescue groups, and community members.

We are regularly able to help others in our community with large animal issues and have become a source of help, information and support to many.

We partner with the Veterinary Educational programs in Tucson to provide hands-on large animal experience for the veterinary students in our community. This on-site experience is a huge plus for the animals AND for the students as they learn how intelligent and loving animals can be, and the animals learn that necessary care can be done with kindness.

We offer ideas and hands-on experience learning how to help these animals when they're injured, being transported or being medically treated to ensure the animal is treated kindly and gently; the goal is to prevent fear and pain. We believe that by meeting our residents and hearing their stories, that hope and love for all animals will be the result.

We welcome visits from families, schools, and other organizations. Please, come and interact with us and with the animals, hear their stories, and learn what amazing sentient beings they are.

I met Shelby and the Hoofsnhorns Farm Sanctuary back in 2016, when a friend and my husband suggested I reach out to them. I was having a hard time with a sick goat, and Shelby got me set up with a fantastic farm vet and supported me as I worried through what would eventually be a loss. When my guy passed, I was beyond myself and reached out to Hoofsnhorns Farm Sanctuary. I not had a lone goat on my farm, but had no way to quickly pick up a companion for her. Shelby, that same day, gave me a goat, Petra, who she knew would do well with my other sweet girl, Po. She ended up being Auntie Petra when Po had babies. Shelby helped me through this situation as well. Aside from my own farm drama, which Shelby and Hoofsnhorns Farm Sanctuary has celebrated and mourned with me through, they have been a place for me to refer volunteers to. One volunteer in particular loved his work there so much, and felt unconditionally accepted and appreciated by Shelby. The work they do there is more of a blessing to our community than many can begin to understand
