Hopi Relief

To uphold the act of 'coming together to help one another' by creating pathways to connections and services for the Hopi people.

Hopi Relief was founded as a grassroots effort by Hopi tribal members, most of whom reside in urban areas, in direct response to COVID-19. We are deeply committed to an ethic of listening, connecting and doing. Currently, Hopi Relief is 99% percent powered by volunteers. Since May 2020, Hopi Relief has delivered water, food, cleaning and personal hygiene supplies directly to the Hopi reservation. Hopi Relief collaborates with village leadership and community members to develop a list of needs. We then go to work fundraising, sourcing, transporting, and placing the items into the trunk of each recipient's car or delivering to their doorsteps on Hopi. Our focus is to continue to be a resource that can leverage relationships in the Phoenix-metro area, source the type of needed and desired food and goods in bulk and deliver them, pre-packaged on a set schedule to a centralized location where we have an established system for distribution.

Since May 2020 Hopi Relief has delivered over 1,000,000 pounds of food and hundreds of boxes of daily hygiene & PPE supplies to Hopi tribal members. We have also partnered with other organizations to deliver winter clothing, shoes, blankets, firewood, toys, and books to the Hopi reservation. While our primary and immediate focus is on addressing issues around food insecurity, health, and safety relative to COVID-19, we also respond, when possible, to other expressed needs. Our long-term vision is to establish a food pantry and community resource center located on Hopi. Hopi Relief also has begun partnering with another organization on the Hopi reservation to initiate services supporting our Hopi small businesses/entrepreneurs, another demographic heavily affected by the pandemic, and currently has no resources on the reservation to offer assistance.
