Nogales Community Development

Our mission at Nogales Community Development is to build thriving communities in Nogales and Santa Cruz County - one business, one person at a time - by managing projects for commercial revitalization, business support for entrepreneurs, asset development for individuals and affordable housing for families and individuals.

Nogales Community Development (NCD) owns and is raising funds to redevelop the former Foxworth Building and Lumber Yard into state-of-the-art offices, training and meeting space as well as a business incubator area to house innovation ventures in Southern Arizona. These new resources will strengthen the historic business district of Nogales. They Will meet the challenges of health, food, housing, education and employment with new solutions; strongly encouraging entrepreneurship in the U.S.-Mexico border region.

• NCD helped create over 42 new jobs, 22 new businesses and 11 micro-business enterprises. It is noteworthy that NCD also created a small entrepreneurial space in which 20 merchants have sold their goods at the Little Mercado community farmer's market.
• NCD's Food Enterprises Project helped launch the Santa Cruz County farmer's markets, creating six new jobs in food-related businesses and retain 60 existing jobs in food-related businesses. NCD owns and operates the new Nils Urman Commercial Kitchen next to the Little Mercado, allowing prospective food entrepreneurs the opportunity to start their own business or grow an existing business.
• Over the last four years, NCD Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) clients in Nogales secured over $500,000 in income tax credits and more than $900,000 in federal and state refunds. NCD has helped 3,143 families receive $7,165,437 in tax refunds.
• NCD's loan program has assisted 17 Santa Cruz County-based businesses with $887,000 in small and micro loans.
