Oak Creek Watershed Council

The Oak Creek Watershed Council dedicated to preserving the health and integrity of Oak Creek. Oak Creek is a perennial, spring-fed stream that stretches fifty miles from its headwaters in Oak Creek Canyon, and flows through Sedona, Page Springs, and Cornville to its confluence with the Verde River. As one of the last free-running streams in Arizona, Oak Creek is a precious jewel of riparian habitat in the desert Southwest, where human activity has destroyed over 90% of all rivers and streams.

Thank you for your interest in the important work that we do! Here at Oak Creek Watershed Council, we work hard to protect the Oak Creek Watershed. This rare free-flowing stream is one of Arizona's greatest treasures. Unfortunately, Oak Creek is truly "loved to death".

Our work:
- Volunteer cleanups: Every year we host up to a dozen cleanup events, where dedicated volunteers help us remove thousands of pounds of litter from the landscape!
- Student Outreach: We host student groups for hands-on, creekside science lessons. These activities are free of charge and connect classroom science to real-life ecology!
- Invasive Plant Management: We help the City of Sedona identify and map invasive plant species that increase fire risk, jumpstarting their efforts to replace these with appropriate native plants.
- Water Quality Testing: We perform regular water quality testing at multiple locations along Oak Creek, monitoring creek health and helping government agencies pinpoint potential sources of contamination.

Our organization heavily depends on financial support to make these necessary improvements across the watershed.
