33 Buckets

A nonprofit organization

33 Buckets is a nonprofit organization empowering communities through long-term access to clean water. Leveraging local partnerships and personal relationships, we support local water management teams and children's schools through direct training and education. Our clean water projects transfer essential skills to community leaders and provide a foundation for children to value water, sanitation, and hygiene. Donate to 33 Buckets to support our community-centered clean water mission!

In today's world, over 1.8 billion people (around 1 in 4) regularly drink contaminated water. Water-borne illnesses are a leading cause of death in children under 5 and contribute to worsening cycles of inequality. Yet, this problem is both preventable and solvable. 33 Buckets creates sustainable access to clean water by training and equipping community's with the necessary resources and skill for effective water management. We recognize that we must go further than just digging wells or providing filters. Research has shown that 40% of such water projects are not maintained in the long term. While we solve technical issues, we also foster a culture that values water through education, direct training, and community engagement.

Since 2017, we have expanded our work in the Cusco region of Peru. Leveraging key local partnerships and our human-centered approach, we provide training seminars and support to transfer essential skills and knowledge to water management teams. By developing relationships with local school leaders, we host WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) seminars for the kids in the community. Today, in 2024, our Team is working hard to expand our impact in the Cusco region and build a sustainable model that can be applied in other communities and regions. Our focus is on identifying and empowering local leaders that are the bridge between the 33 Buckets community and the communities we connect with and serve. Through the years, we've connected our Arizona community with 33 Buckets' work, enabling countless students to travel to Peru and hosting our (Peruvian-inspired) Art-4-Agua auction that features many local Arizona artists. With your support, we can play a role in shaping the future of clean water here in Arizona and across the globe.

Testimonials

Last year, we asked Maria Chavez Soto, the President of Chuspi's Water Management Team, about the most important takeaway from 33 Buckets' training sessions. She explained, "Well, previously we did not know the importance of water and the consumption of clean water, that it must be guaranteed. Now that we know this, we are conscious that water is essential - without water we cannot live. So we have to take care of our water and continue to learn and attend other trainings to stay up to date."

"We have reservoirs and a drip chlorination system that causes problems for us because it is difficult to control the chlorine in the water level. Sometimes we put too much, or too less, causing problems for the population.

For that reason, we are organizing with 33 Buckets to install a new system with tablets to have exact control of the amount needed to purify the water while saving us much time and money.

We are very grateful for Daniel and 33 Buckets that they are supporting this district that is in a vulnerable situation, a district in extreme poverty as we are categorized by the government of Peru." - Mayor Wilbur Lucio of the Ccorca District

"Before, 15% of our kids were malnourished with stomach problems. Now, we have almost zero." - Agripino Cordova Tocre, School Principal, Huillcapata, Peru

"There was a lot of improvement, with the treated water, in the children of the kindergarten and the primary school." - Danny Gallardo, Teacher, Occopata, Peru

"The project has impacted the community greatly. We have water now and every one of us is grateful and gives many thanks for your support." -Jose Antonio Fernandez Nina, former Community President of Pucara
