As educators of neurodiverse children, our service is providing for academic excellence, but we must also facilitate the development of critical social and life skills in our scholars.
Since our inception in 2014, we have recognized the development of life skills as paramount to student success. We focus not only on academic skills, but also on social skills, emotional regulation, leadership, self-determination, and independent living skills. For example, how do you hold a conversation? Are you a good winner and loser? Can you recognize when you are stressed? Our goal is for our students to master concepts which will help them in their relationships, schooling and workplace, showing them how to affirm their worth, the worth of others and their valued place within our community.
Our leadership has developed rich elective programs and growth opportunities. Through our in-school transition program and our partnerships with Workability or the University of Arizona's UCEDD program, our students are taught the critical skills needed to further their potential through an appropriate career path. Our teaching methodology is based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and we incorporate Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) into our curriculum. The Abbie School has a 100% graduation rate!
Abbie School is accredited with WASC, Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
Our students are children of promise, who, with flexibility, support and the correct interventions, can lead fulfilling, successful and independent lives. Your support of our school, allows us to fund key projects such as an onsite, sustainable garden as part of our STEAM program.
Abbie is also in need of tax credit donations, both individual, and corporate, to fund tuition scholarships.
Thank you for investing in the potential of these incredible kids.
The Abbie School has changed our daughter's life. Over the course of the 8 months since she has started at The Abbie School, we have watched our girl transform into a happy and confident child, with friends and emerging talents. There is some magic alchemy at work at Abbie; between the serene, wooded campus, the goats and chickens, the calm and positive staff and vibrant children, our daughter's anxieties have receded into the background, and she is finally able to breathe, to learn and to be herself (Kylee Fenton, Parent).
This is our son's first year at Abbie School. This has also been the first educational experience that our child has had where we are certain his needs are being met. He is 12 years old. We have moved our home multiple times to live in the "best" public school districts only to be disappointed time and time again. Class sizes of 30 children and lack of quality special education training made it very easy for him to get left behind. True inclusion means meeting a child where they are at in the least restrictive environment and Abbie has done that for our son. Each teacher, staff member and administrator that our child interacts with has his best interest at heart. Any question or concern that we have had as a family has been met with care and concern. Somehow Abbie School sculpts the perfect learning program for each child and we are blessed to be a part of this community. Prior to Abbie School our son never spoke of friendships or what he did that day. Now he cannot wait to tell us what he learned and who he played with on the playground. There is an energy that we can read as parents especially if our child has difficulty expressing themselves. Our son appears more relaxed, content and most excitedly, proud. Our family has experienced a healing at Abbie School and has restored our faith in education. (Sarah D., Parent).
