Phoenix Youth Circus Arts (TAPAZ)

A nonprofit organization

Phoenix Youth Circus Arts uses the fun and creative world of circus arts to teach skills that build the mind, body, and self-esteem of youth of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Through the learning and performing of individual and group circus acts, students develop healthy bodies, confident spirits, and valuable capacities for cooperation and trust in a challenging, but non-competitive environment - and proudly "style and smile" when they share what they learn with the community!

PYCA teaches juggling, acrobatics, balancing arts, and aerial arts at low cost wherever we can find kids that need a healthy, fun, and creative after-school program, especially where regular sports or arts programs are either unavailable or too expensive. We take the circus equipment wherever it is needed and use whatever space is available to train kids to do everything from ball juggling to human pyramids, tumbling, stilt walking, and tight-wire walking. A show for family, friends, and the wider community almost always accompanies any PYCA program - and the excitement and rewards of sharing what they have learned in a performance have a big impact on the kids. The infectious joy and the accomplishments of the kids in turn have a big impact on the audience.

Testimonials

"He does a beautiful job of breaking down complex tasks (such as juggling) so that children are challenged, yet successful as well. He is kind, patient and positive with the students, and joyful in their success!" - Marilyn Sanchez, retired school administrator, Creighton School District

"The students were beaming with pride. Circus arts had reached many of them in a way no other activity had." -- Melanie Powers, director of Acclaim Academy
