Support SWEEP’s fight for a cleaner, more energy-efficient future in Arizona

For 25 years, the Southwest Energy Efficiency Project (SWEEP) has championed energy efficiency and clean energy solutions across the Southwest. Through advocacy, partnerships, and innovative initiatives, SWEEP has helped Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming lead the way in addressing the climate crisis by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the electric grid, advancing transportation electrification, and supporting comfortable, efficient homes featuring electric appliances. Our efforts in these states have strengthened energy efficiency standards, promoted cleaner transportation options, and ensured that income-qualified households can benefit from the clean energy transition.

Below are some of SWEEP’s accomplishments, spearheaded by our Arizona staff, that are helping drive clean, affordable energy solutions across the state. With your donation, we can continue tackling the challenges ahead and advancing practical, cost-saving energy solutions for Arizona communities. Here’s what we’ve accomplished recently — with your support on Arizona Gives Day, we can do even more.

Advancing clean energy, electrification, and local leadership

In Arizona, SWEEP is working at the local level to advance stronger building energy codes and modernize how communities plan for growth. In 2025, SWEEP supported the adoption of the 2024 International Energy Conservation Code across multiple cities, including Phoenix, Tucson, Mesa, and Glendale, helping ensure new homes are more efficient, comfortable, and affordable to operate. In Phoenix and Mesa, this included new requirements to make homes ready for electric vehicles — lowering future costs for homeowners and supporting cleaner transportation.

Driving practical solutions despite state-level setbacks

While state-level support for energy efficiency declined in 2025, SWEEP continued to engage directly with regulators and decision-makers to advance practical, forward-looking solutions. Our work helped shape new efforts to expand Virtual Power Plants — coordinated networks of technologies like home batteries, solar, and smart devices — which can reduce strain on the grid and lower costs for customers. SWEEP is building on this progress by advocating for stronger, performance-based programs in upcoming utility decisions.

Supporting smarter growth and transportation options

SWEEP also played a key role in advancing local land use and transportation solutions that reduce costs and improve quality of life. In Phoenix, we supported the city’s first middle housing ordinance and policies to better align development with transit, helping expand housing options while reducing energy use and transportation costs. We also celebrated the expansion of Valley Metro light rail, improving access to affordable, low-emission transportation for residents across the region.
