To Step One,
When I came in to your program, I was a lost soul. I was described as societies throw away, a waste, and damaged goods. I was addicted to drugs, I was selling myself on the street to survive and support my drug habit. I knew I did not want to live this way but I had seen no way out. I could not even form a thought process past getting more money to get more dope so I could endure what I did to get more money to get more dope. It was a vicious cycle. I thought I would die on the streets. The best I could do was hope for prison. I was losing my sanity, I had a back pack, a pillow and a bag of pennies to my name. I cannot describe in words how scared and lost I was.
I had heard of your program and decided to call to see if you would accept me. That one phone call to Step One changed my life Step One did not care about my past and the awful things I had done or the fact that I had no money or job, Step One just wanted to give me a chance and help me. Step One made me feel safe and cared about me and that helped me so I could heal. When I did struggle, Joe and the staff helped me through my struggles.
While residing at Step One not only did I remain off drugs and learn respect for myself, I got my parental rights back to my children, I went to college and got two certificates, I have a good job helping others because of my life experiences on the street. I never, in a million years, would have believed this possible. Step One's program helped me to make this all possible.
I will forever be grateful for what you have done for me Step One. Thank You
-D.N.
