Act one provides meaningful arts experiences that enhance the academic and creative potential of children and families in Arizona.
In Arizona, schools increasingly do not have funds for educational arts field trips. This is especially the case for Title I schools in low-income communities. Each year, thanks to the generosity of donors across the state, Act One provides an opportunity for more than 10,000 children in lower-income schools to experience arts performances and exhibitions through field trips to professional theaters and museums.
Founded in 2011 by Mac and Russ Perlich, Act One is governed by a Board of Directors and managed by a small professional staff. Act One's programs have grown to provide access to the arts for children and families in Arizona each year.
ACT ONE'S IN-PERSON FIELD TRIP AND VIRTUAL REALITY FIELD TRIP PROGRAMS
Act One's Field Trip Program narrows the gap that denies Title I students equal access to arts education and field trip experiences. Act One serves Title I schools to provide free field trips to arts and culture partners in Phoenix and Tucson. Act One has a unique program structure in which we coordinate all details with schools and arts organizations to book and fund each trip for students. To date, we've served over a quarter of a million students from Title I schools!
Act One removed the geography barrier to students attending field trips by creating the groundbreaking, custom Virtual Reality Field Trip, Arts Immersion. Act One's Virtual Reality Specialists visit Title I schools for free with headsets for 5th-12th grade students to experience an hour-long inspirational and academic virtual field trip.
ACT ONE CULTURE PASS
The Act One Culture Pass offers library card holders complimentary tickets or admission to participating cultural destinations. The pass is designed to bring the enrichment and education of performing and visual arts to families and individuals who would not be able to afford it otherwise. In the years since the pass was created, millions of passes have been checked out of local libraries and used by patrons to access the arts.
"THEY LOVED IT! They had so much fun! We came back and explored other composers, listened to other classical music, discussed how the program tied back into our curriculum from last week (we learned about the governmental process of voting and WHY it was important, so this program was perfect and powerful.) Our students loved practicing proper theater etiquette, working on their standing ovation, and dressing up! My kids were locked in, too! I was worried they'd be fidgety, bored, or fall asleep. But, not one kid was a wiggle-worm. They were focused, they conducted along with Mr. Kasper, they applauded at appropriate times, and expressed their opinions candidly. ... They had a great time!"
