BICAS is a worker self directed nonprofit 501(c)(3) Bicycle Center located near downtown Tucson.
By teaching people how to fix and maintain their own bicycles, refurbishing old bicycles, and fashioning brand new creations out of damaged parts, BICAS promotes education, empowerment, art, and a healthy environment while providing skills and opportunity for those in need.
For over 30 years BICAS has been teaching people how to fix their own bicycles. We focus on serving those who traditionally have the least access to reliable transportation and mechanical skills, including youth, women, the homeless, refugees, and immigrants. Many of our patrons rely on their bikes as their main mode of transportation and independence. To make sure all our community members have access to our services we offer a Work-Trade Program which allows those with little/no money to help out around the shop in exchange for bikes, parts, tool use, and repair assistance.
BICAS is also nationally-known for our upcycled art program. Any time a bicycle part is too worn or damaged to be used for a bicycle, it finds new life in our art department as a bike rack, metal sculpture, earrings, etc. We try as hard as we can to reuse old items rather than send all the broken bits to the landfill.

"BICAS is the kind of organization that uniquely defines Tucson. It is has its roots in helping people and providing a service for others, yet has grown tremendously by building a diverse base because of its ability to change and grow. I am most proud of BICAS for its commitment to provide free and low-cost instruction and bicycles to children and adults who can't afford it. Their work with kids helps parents and families and provides transportation alternatives in our much-needed quest for clean air."
