At Compass Affordable Housing (CAH), we believe that family and community health begins in the home. Everyone deserves safe and stable housing to build strong, healthy families and a thriving community. Monica's Story:
Monica found herself homeless after escaping from an abusive relationship. She was a victim of domestic violence and had to flee her home. When Monica began working with Compass Affordable Housing, she had no safe place to call home or income for security. Monica and her housing assistant found an apartment for her and began working to find her employment. Monica remained diligent and obtained employment in food services, her first step to establishing her financial independence. Her next steps were working on her budget and saving money. She was able to begin planning for her future. Since working with CAH, Monica's confidence in herself and her abilities has grown. She has the recovery support and services to overcome her traumas and build a brighter future. Monica shared, "CAH has helped me realize that I need to start putting myself first and not ignore myself or my needs to please others." She believes that CAH "helped me to get some much-needed stability. I have found a job and am working on goals for myself."
Leonard's Story:
Leonard's story is a testament to the transformative power of support services and affordable housing. At 55 years old, Leonard had been homeless for decades after being incarcerated. However, after being referred to Compass Affordable Housing, Inc., he was finally able to obtain housing and start searching for employment with the help of their team. Leonard's search soon paid off when he was hired at the prestigious Arizona Stadium Club. For the first time in decades, he had a consistent income. He worked with his housing assistant to create a budget and develop financial skills, enabling him to open a savings account, pay off past debt, and eventually pay his rent and utilities. Initially, Leonard had difficulty adjusting to being housed due to his long period of homelessness. Now, Leonard is thriving, creating a home where he lives independently and safely.
