About GAP Ministries:
For the past 25 years, children have always been at the heart of GAP. But GAP Ministries wants to do more than just meet the needs of these precious children. It is the desire of the organization to BREAK GENERATIONAL CYCLES OF POVERTY AND ABUSE! Over the years more programs have been added to the ministry to help children and families before they reach the crisis point where their children can end up in foster care. And programs to help families after the children have been removed so that they can learn healthy parenting skills and find good paying jobs to successfully provide for their families.

CHILDREN: GAP annually cares for over 250 foster children and teens, either by foster families licensed and trained by GAP, or in family-model group homes. Siblings are able to stay together while in care due to the larger size of our homes and children are given love and support through the stability afforded within a family model.

FAMILY: GAP believes that the root problem needs to be dealt with in order to stop the foster care cycle from repeating. Because of this, we have programs to help heal the families of the children in care. GAP supervises court-mandated visitations between children and their families, with the desire that children and parents re-establish a healthy relationship while working toward reunification whenever possible.

COMMUNITY: GAP's Community Warehouse partners with local retailers and over 50+ local non-profits in order to redistribute fresh food and basic needs items to over 3,000 families weekly. The GAP Kitchen prepares meals weekly for thousands of low-income, at-risk children and families throughout Pima County. GAP's Career Plus Job & Life Development Training provides opportunity for a better future to young adults and others coming from difficult situations, such as incarceration or addiction.

GAP Ministries serves all children and individuals in need, with a diversity of religions or none at all because we strongly believe people deserve to be treated with love, respect, and dignity. Being faith-based means that we live out our belief system which calls us to lead lives full of love and compassion, helping those in need with specific attention paid to the orphan and the widow.

Testimonials

Millie’s life was marked by abuse and rejection. Her biological family lost their rights to her when she was very young, and she was adopted at the age of six to a family she thought was safe. But for the next 11 years, she endured abuse in every form - sexual, emotional, and physical - at the hands of her adoptive family. The situation became so dire that Millie eventually ran away and was placed in GAP’s care in one of our group homes with house parents Michael and Zoey Ayers.

Almost immediately the three of them felt God was calling them to be a family. Michael and Zoey were elated when Millie asked to be adopted.

Since coming into Zoey and Michael’s care, Millie’s transformation has been remarkable.   “It’s been so amazing watching her accept us and accept love from us. We love her, this is her home, and it’s been rewarding to help Millie discover who God made her to be.” (Millie is pictured with Michael, Zoe, and their other two children.)

At GAP, we meet children like Millie every day—children whose childhoods are marked not by joy, play, and hope but by trauma so deep and painful that it is unimaginable to most. GAP exists to break these generational cycles of poverty and abuse, driven by Christ’s call to care for the orphan and the widow. In providing love, stability, and a true home, we are helping children like Millie step out of the shadows of their past and into a future filled with hope.
