The Humane Society of Wickenburg (HSW) was incorporated on September 7, 2004, by residents concerned with the welfare of animals in our community. HSW is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization as recognized by the IRS and receives no government funding, fiscally surviving solely through grants and donations.
In June 2007, the organization purchased an acre of land at the Industrial Park and built a 6,600-square-foot animal shelter facility at 4000 Industrial Road. The shelter doors officially opened on February 11, 2009. HSW operates a no-kill shelter that aims to place every adoptable animal in a permanent, well-educated home. HSW works hard to provide the community and its animals with services and resources that will enhance pet-owner/animal-human relationships; prevent abuse, neglect, mistreatment, and cruelty toward animals; inform the community on responsible pet ownership practices and issues affecting animals; provide temporary shelter for lost, homeless, unwanted and abused animals until appropriate, permanent loving homes are secured.
HSW serves Wickenburg, AZ, and surrounding small rural areas to provide the community with low-cost options for spay/neuter (monthly), low-cost microchip clinics (bi-annually), an annual Responsible Dog Ownership Day where the public can receive free name tags, microchipping, nail-trimmings, rabies vaccinations etc and TNR assistance for the feral cats within the communities. Furthermore, HSW is highly involved within the community and partners with a business or organization almost every weekend to enhance camaraderie within the communities served.
In 2023, HSW served a historically high number of 524 animals and facilitated 430 adoptions. Each animal adopted from the Humane Society of Wickenburg is spayed/neutered, appropriately vaccinated, micro-chipped, given a wellness check by our Certified Veterinary Technician, and given a complimentary name tag before leaving the facility. As a part of the adoption process, each adopter is contacted three days, three weeks, and three months after the adoption date to check on them and assist the adopter with any additional resources they may need. The Humane Society of Wickenburg staff, volunteers and Board of Directors genuinely care about every one of the shelter animals and strive each day to find them their pawfect furrever homes!
