Homeless Youth Connection

Mission: Our mission is to eliminate barriers to graduation for homeless youth and create lasting solutions for a successful future through community support and increased awareness.

History: HYC was founded in 2010 to meet the needs of youth experiencing homelessness who wish to remain in high school but may be forced to drop out because they lack a safe or stable home due to a number of factors. Beginning with one high school, HYC has expanded to serve more than 130 schools throughout Maricopa County and the city of Flagstaff.

Our Program: HYC provides comprehensive case management support and resources to youth (ages 13-21) experiencing homelessness. These youth face numerous barriers to education, keeping many of them from completing high school or achieving post-secondary education. HYC serves as a preventive measure against chronic homelessness, recognizing that youth without a high school diploma are 4.5 times more likely to experience long-term homelessness. By addressing immediate needs and removing barriers to education, HYC empowers youth to thrive, graduate, and build a sustainable future.

• Educational resources, including class fees, elective or club fees, computers, and other educational expenses
• School supplies
• Hygiene products
• Basic clothing
• Employment resources
• Vital documents: birth certificate, I.D. card
• Health insurance enrollment
• Medical co-pays and prescriptions
• Post-graduation assistance with FAFSA, college application fees, etc.
