Testimonials

Artists like myself often get caught up in the everyday rhythm of art making and the constant struggle to balance our lives so that we are able to survive while creating. It is wonderful to know that organizations such as the Phoenix Institute of Contemporary Art (phICA) are actually looking after us. phICA has been working on my behalf all the while I have been busy making art. They have helped me pause and pull my head above water to see what could and can be. Without phICA giving me the opportunity for my first international exhibition along with a 5 week residency in Rio de Janerio, Brazil I would still be in my 'art cave' creating art and looking at shadows. I am very grateful to phICA for this unique opportunity.
Sue Chenoweth, Phoenix, Arizona

I had a wonderful time during the phICA residency. It was possible to do a lot of good work and engage with many interesting people from the artistic community such as artists, curators, art dealers, museum staff, and also a diverse and pretty exciting public at the exhibition venue in Roosevelt Row.
The experience to live in Central Phoenix was very exciting. The city's natural surroundings and also Arizona's must see destinations such as Grand Canyon and Sedona will be forever in my memories. I must thank the very generous people (Ted Decker, Greg Esser and Cory Slawson) who were my local guides in the nature. During this visits I had the opportunity to have splendid conversations and establish friendship.
My gratitude to phICA and its founders (Ted Decker, Greg Esser, Eddie Shea) to believe in my work and for this amazing experience!
