Seeds Community Center

A nonprofit organization

We equip our neighbors to flourish through community partnerships and practical support. A small faith-based non-profit serving Tucson kinship families, we offer monthly support groups, care packages, activity & childcare scholarships, & assistance navigating services. Suggested Donations: $50 = child care for 1 kinship support group $150 = 1 Parent Night Out event $250 = 1 school break childcare scholarship $500 = 1 round of care packages for 20 families

Kinship caregivers are family, friends, and neighbors who step in to care for a child when they cannot safely remain with their parents. Arizona has the highest rate of kinship placements in the U.S.

The process of becoming a kinship caregiver can be disorienting, overwhelming, and isolating. Kinship caregivers don't have access to many of the supports and programs available for licensed foster parents and are often new to navigating the child welfare system. However, multiple research studies have found that children in kinship placements have better wellbeing, fewer mental health disorders, fewer behavioral problems and less placement disruption than children in non-relative foster care.

Supporting kinship caregivers is a vital way to foster better outcomes for children who have experienced family trauma. Seeds Community Center aims to fill service gaps for kinship families in Tucson.

Our Kinship Family Enrichment Program includes support groups, care packages, childcare scholarships, Parent Night Out events, and assistance navigating services. Our Enrichment Matters Scholarship, launched in 2023, provides scholarships to children in kinship families to attend extracurricular activities, such as sports, arts, and music programs.

Testimonials

"The kids enjoyed their gifts as much as I enjoyed mine. Thank you again for the gifts and also the bonus ones we got in the summer and fall. They are truly perfect and well thought out. I am so grateful for this group and the way you make us feel special." -Kinship caregiver on receiving their family's Christmas Blessings gift package

"The scholarship is especially helpful because I lost my job this year and have struggled finding the right job for myself while also finding one that allows me to care for our family. Extracurriculars are not really in the budget, but we knew this would be such a great thing, physically, emotionally and mentally for Mercee with all that she is going through in her little life." -Kinship caregiver on receiving an Enrichment Matters Scholarship to pay for the cost of gymnastics class

"I can't even wash dishes without having to stop at least once. I am truly appreciative of you and Seeds. I am grateful for the conversation, dinner, and the much-needed respite from the daily chaos." -Kinship caregiver on the community and support they receive during our monthly support groups
