$5,000 Goal

The mission of the Sunnyslope Historical Society is to promote, encourage and foster research of the history of Sunnyslope and to collect, preserve, disseminate materials, and information related to the history of Sunnyslope. This also raises funds for any of the foregoing objectives, and accept donations, gifts, legacies and bequests.

We are an organization that is serving the Sunnyslope community of North Phoenix for more than 33 years. We promote community awareness about the history, activities and community events of Sunnyslope. As a community organization we promote safety, helping sponsor neighborhood clean-ups and provide information for city services. We hold informational events about a wide range of interests on the subjects of community safety, local and state history, local public art, as well as preservation classes to help individuals preserve their own family history. "We are history in the making!" - Rene Blain

We use our esteemed status as a community organization to promote Sunnyslope and all of the things that make it a unique area within the City of Phoenix. Our monthly presentations include talks on safety, public art, local history, and community activities. We enjoy sponsoring public events such as neighborhood cleanups, art walks, food crawls, neighborhood block watch meetings, GAIN (Getting Arizona Involved Night) events, movie in the park, Slopefest and many other events. We are proud of our community and we are making history every day!

We are currently fundraising for repairs, improvements to our museum, and 1945 House Exhibit. Our museum is housed in the building that was once known as Peoples Drug Store, which was originally located at 111 E Dunlap Ave. Our 1945 House is a separate building located on our campus. It was originally located at 8924 N 2nd Street in the Sunnyslope neighborhood of North Phoenix. In 1999 the City of Phoenix purchased the so it land could be redeveloped into a commercial zone. The buildings were rescued from demolition and donated to the Sunnyslope Historical Society, who moved them to its current location at 737 E Hatcher Road. They were refurbished to showcase Sunnyslope history, to house the Historical Society and Museum. This treasure of Sunnyslope needs to have it's accessibility updated helping ensure access for all. We are currently getting estimates and pricing for updating the electrical and plumbing. We also are fundraising to help cover our utility expenses. We are looking forward to reaching these goals, so we can preserve history for future generations, and continue to enhance our connection with the community.
