SKYE'S THE LIMIT FOUNDATION is a 501c3 Public Charity RECOGNIZING THE NEED FOR COMPASSION AND CONNECTION TO COMBAT THE SOCIAL ISOLATION THAT CAN LEAD TO SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND SUICIDE.
OUR VISION IS TO SEE A RESILIENT WORLD WHERE WE THRIVE TOGETHER.
The Mission of Skye's the Limit! Foundation is to prevent trauma-related loss by substance overdose and suicide by building resiliency and empowering youth, families, and communities through advocacy, trauma education, peer support, and art- & nature-based intervention strategies.
We work to build a trauma-informed community that supports and empowers those impacted by trauma. We provide referrals for therapeutic services and resources for help.
Skye's the Limit was founded in light of the trauma-related overdose of 19-year-old Skye Gina Ratcliffe Pilato on September 30, 2014. After two suicide attempts, Skye resorted to drugs to numb the pain she was feeling in isolation. In her honor, Skye's the Limit now educates the community on trauma, harm reduction, and self-care and works to provide an environment for youth to speak out, express themselves, and ask for help.
"If you combine all your ideas into one, what can you create? A masterpiece. Let the journey begin!" Skye Gina Ratcliffe Pilato
PROGRAMS:
Skye’s the Limit! Foundation provides Awareness, Education, Art Activations, and Referral Resources through its Resilient Youth and Trauma-Informed Communities Substance Use and Suicide Prevention Program.
We combat isolation, which often leads to substance use and suicide, by fostering connections through our Arts- and Nature-Based Intervention programs.
Skye’s the Limit! Foundation’s programming not only encourages expressing oneself creatively, but also empowers those living with trauma to speak out and express themselves when in need of support and help.
"My daughter Skye faced incredible challenges with trauma. Awareness on trauma informed care/response/approach was not readily available for her or myself. We strongly believe that it's important and life saving FOR Youth and Young Adults to understand trauma and how to live life and respond with an intentional, trauma-informed mindset."-Keiko Ratcliffe (KR) Founder, President Skye's the Limit Foundation
1) RESILIENT YOUTH THROUGH ARTS- & NATURE-BASED INTERVENTION ACTIVITIES
2) TRAUA-INFORMED COMMUNITY EDUCATION, SUPPORT AND TRAINING
3) FOLLOW SKYE'S DREAM NURSING SCHOLARSHIP
Skye's the Limit Foundation recently sponsored over 100 non-clinical care support professionals and parents to attend the Arizona Trauma Institute's two-day, virtual Certified Trauma Support Specialist training and certification. Here's what one attendee had to say:
"I am a Fostering Future Youth Program Supervisor and a Guardian ad Litem. I would like to say thank you, thank you, thank you, for allowing me (and my co-workers) the opportunity to participate in this very insightful and informative training. I gained a higher level of understanding when dealing with people who have experienced trauma, and I learned effective ways to maintain my own emotional and mental wellness. I would recommend this training to EVERYONE because of the valuable skills you gain that can be applied in both your professional and personal lives."
A note from one of our recent scholarship recipients:
"Thank you so much to the Skye's the Limit Foundation for awarding me with the Follow Skye's Dream Scholarship! I truly appreciate this scholarship and it will be a great help towards this year's textbooks and nursing supplies. What you are doing to honor Skye's life and legacy is phenomenal and is already making such a difference. Thank you again for this opportunity, it means so much to me and my family. I am so passionate about trauma-informed care and hope to teach my patients about risk factors and long-lasting effects of trauma one day in order to prevent it from happening to other kids. Let's continue to help empower our youth!"
And finally, here's what a participant from our October 2020 online collaborative art project had to say about the experience:
"It (seeing the final image) definitely lifts my spirits. I do not do much visual art, so I really loved just a simple coloring project that could get as complex as I wanted… Having no idea what to expect about the finished piece, it was so exciting to see the final collaboration and to see my little panel as part of a greater whole. When you can see the bigger picture of all the panels together, you can also see how the diversity and uniqueness of each piece has a place amidst all the others. Deep! I love feeling the connection to others I have never met who also participated."
