Since 1979, WHEAT has worked to end hunger and poverty at the root.
The Mission of WHEAT is to educate, advocate, engage and empower individuals to action in the fight against hunger and poverty. Your support will enable us to make a difference in the lives of individuals and families both globally and locally. You're truly helping people help themselves.
WHEAT's Programs Include:
the Clothes Silo, a clothing boutique empowering local women in need through the provision of free workwear and offering on-the-job training.
the Fair Trade Store, a retail shop partnering with artisans and small-scale farmers around the globe to help break the cycle of poverty through the sale of fair and ethically traded goods.
SNAP Outreach, educating adults about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), dispelling misconceptions, and helping individuals through the application process. With SNAP benefits, low-income individuals and households are able to buy nutritious foods, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
Advocacy Efforts, training and supporting advocates to effectively advise policy makers, guiding them towards decisions that improve access to education, health, and economic opportunity.
