The mission of the Fiber Arts Center AZ is to support and promote fiberarts through engaging the community through education, exhibitions and the honoring of cultural heritages. Our Education program offers a variety of fiber art workshops and classes, conveniently located at venues throughout the State, where beginners and advanced students learn new skills and advance the basics. learning opportunities with specialized instructors passionate about keeping traditions alive and forging ahead by experimenting with techniques and unusual, sometimes recycled and repurposed materials. Demonstrations, Artist Talks, expert lectures and Make and Take projects all serve to bring a better understanding of how the fiber arts impact our daily lives.
Imagine watching the hands of a skilled lacemaker shuffling thread-filled bobbins at lightning speed to create lace for a special garment. Have you watched a Navajo elder teaching a young apprentice how to warp a loom? Maybe you have admired hand-painted cloth that was used to make a dress. These skills could be lost forever if it were not for the passionate artists that teach basketry, quilting, paper-making, wood-working, weaving, spinning, coiling, twining, and more. Not only is there a skill in working the technique, there is also knowledge that is passed on about how to process the materials. From sheep sheering to picking cotton, dyeing with native plants and using commercial dyes, using tools and machines safely are all part of the education programs at the Fiber Arts Center AZ.
With your generous donation, we will be able to reach more people and offer beginning classes for school-age kids.
