Southwest Shakespeare Company

Southwest Shakespeare Company uses classical theater to educate, entertain and engender compassionate communities through robust school programs and professional performances for the general public.

SSC's vision is to be the premier classical theatre company in the Southwest, and we believe that a culturally-aware and culturally-knowledgeable community has the best chance to become a caring and humane community. We are achieving this vision through professional productions that inspire children via in-school tours, school field trips and the general public through regular performances.

We are an anti-racist company with equal opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and circumstance, operating in the state of Arizona, the active home of over 23 indigenous First Nation communities (see our website), meaning "Little Spring" in our native O'odham tongue (historically pronounced: alĭ ṣonak). Also home of Latin (33%), African/Caribbean (5.3%), Asian ( 3%) and Pacific Island (1%) and other European descendants (53%). We acknowledge our past and the importance of education, history and language in our programming and in building the best most hopeful, peaceful, productive future for all our remarkable communities as one community together in the Southwest.

During COVID, we have expanded our reach to a global audience, offering free virtual productions and readings of the classics for general consumption through our facebook page, as well as continuing to offer virtual productions for educational institutions to use in the classroom. We have also continued to employ actors in a limited capacity as we maintain our position as the premier classical theater company of Airzona and the Southwest.
