Since 1970, The Haven has offered an effective approach to substance use recovery specifically for women. The Haven understands that men and women experience substance use disorders differently and have unique risks to consider in their treatment. The Haven also understands that women have a different role in the center of their family as a caretaker and a provider.
Because 7 in 10 women in recovery are mothers, The Haven approaches the process of healing from substance use and co-occurring disorders with a goal to reunite families, rebuild communities, and strengthen the mother/child bond. If just one woman is helped and she regains the custody of her children, becomes a better caregiver, and breaks the cycle of intergenerational trauma, that has an immense impact on her family and her community.
The Haven has both residential and intensive outpatient program. Women can stay in residential treatment for up to 90 days and transition to intensive outpatient treatment for an additional 90 days if needed. While in the intensive outpatient program, women live in either housing provided by The Haven, free of charge, or in the community. Women can bring their young children under the age of 4 to live with them and older children can visit their mothers during the weekend visitation hours.
"Thanks to The Haven, I became a strong, independent woman. I know how to live a sober life. They helped me get back on my feet, to believe in myself. I know now that I can care for my children by myself if I have to. People here help me with my kids if I have questions. I know now that I can pay my bills. I see a whole new life in front of me." - Lin
"Without The Haven IOP, I would have been homeless for a significant amount of time around drug addicts and very well could have relapsed. Being kept in a safe environment has allowed me to put everything together and still be safe and strong. Thank you IOP for giving me a life I can be proud of! The coping skills I learned allow me to deal with everyday problems that used to bring me down. I feel like there is nothing I can't do." - Jainie
