TRSAZ founder, Jordanna Saunders, was born and raised on the Navajo reservation in New Mexico, where her family still resides.
Growing up in a Tribal community that has been negatively impacted by genocide and systemic historical trauma, Jordanna experienced first-hand what happens when emotional healing and trauma reconciliation isn't implemented in communities of color in a sustainable manner. Her background in community and Tribal mental health work solidified her passion for working with youth, families, couple and advocating for health equity for the underserved. Coming from a holistic, traditional Navajo background, she believes that teens, families, Veterans, BIPOC folks and the underserved can benefit greatly from trauma therapy provided by expertly trained culturally & trauma informed practitioners. Many of the the clinical staff at TRSAZ are trained in several evidenced based trauma intervention modalities such as EMDR & TF-CBT.
Due to complex conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety, Indigenous populations and people from underserved communities experience significantly shortened life spans, and reduced quality of life. Indigenous women experience violence at much higher rates than non-Indigenous women and often deal with little to no professional support leading to alarming mental health statistics and death rates.
For these important reasons, TRSAZ focuses on greatly improving access to trauma-informed mental health services utilizing technology in affected communities.
TRSAZ utilizes an 80-20 model. 80% of all clients come in with some of funding whether that's commercial insurance, Medicaid or funding by a third party payor. The remaining 20% of services are offered at a reduced cost to the client. 20% of all TRSAZ services are offered at low or no cost via a sliding scale. We provide low and no cost services to individuals who are either uninsured or underinsured. Many of these clients are clients who otherwise would not received therapy to address trauma. We believe by disrupting the status quo of who has access to life changing therapy modalities such as EMDR is one way to reconcile historical trauma, heal the wounds of military service and address childhood sexual abuse.
