Twisted Tails creates the change necessary for us all to be good stewards to animals by successfully and positively impacting the lives of many animals who, through no fault of their own, are neglected, abandoned or worse.
Our rescues are therapists for humans suffering from abuse, stress and learning challenges.
We provide connections for critical healing therapies as a catalyst in conjunction with traditional therapy or as stand-
alone therapy, for those without access to conventional treatments. These therapies provide powerful,
proven healing from anxiety, depression and behavioral issues. According to a study in 2018 by UCLA "This
demonstrates that even a short-term exposure to dogs has beneficial physiological and psychosocial effects
on patients who want it, and warrants serious consideration as an adjunct to medical therapy."
We partner with organizations, therapists, schools & individuals leading the charge to provide healing therapies to at no cost, to those in need. Those with the greatest need are typically those with the least access to traditional resources. . Disadvantaged and troubled youth, women in transition, single parents, military and first responders are engaged for social, emotional, mental and physical therapies with rescued horses, dogs and others.
Our facilities are worn & in need of repairs. The safety of our animals, staff, volunteers and therapy patients is paramount. Feed, supplements, veterinary bills & daily maintenance are huge expenses for sponsoring, rescuing or in the case of seniors, a safe forever sanctuary to live the remainder of their lives stress-free. These needs are our priority but our facilities are nearly 40 years old and were not built with these uses in mind. It is critical we update, secure and provide quality shelter for training, animals, feed and supplies.
"I came with my wife to watch her interact and volunteer; little did I know by just being here and interacting with all the animals, I too would experience such peace of mind and happiness, something that has eluded me for many years. I can't wait to come back and be more involved. Thank you for all you do." - former military personnel suffering from PSTD.
"Animals scared me so gardening gave me a way to be near them and watch them from a distance. During breaks watering plants and fertilizing, I would notice how peaceful the horses and peacocks were and it made me want to get closer to them. The peacocks were shy and I wanted to help with feeding them and giving them fresh water. Now I am enjoying all the animals AND the garden! I could stay here all day!" - (anonymous ) challenged young adult
"Cowboy was doomed to live his life alone and crippled in a field of dry grass until Twisted Tails stepped in. He was a rodeo horse, proud and strong. He gave his all for his rider who's health declined and he could no longer care for Cowboy. When Cowboy first arrived, he was nervous, anxious and afraid. Today, he hugs those who care for him, he loves being with the rest of Rowdy's Rescues and although his legs are crippled; he keeps up with the rest of the herd. Head held high and a little spunky...he's happy in his forever home." from JC.
