As the largest hunger relief organization serving Southwestern Arizona, the Yuma Community Food Bank's Mission is to relieve hunger, increase self-reliance and improve the quality of life for children and families throughout Yuma and La Paz Counties.
Founded in 1978 by a group of dedicated volunteers, the Yuma Community Food Bank focused on feeding hungry children in Yuma County. Over forty-eight years later, the Yuma Community Food Bank operates 10 monthly mobile distributions throughout Yuma County including, but not limited to, Somerton, San Luis, Wellton and Dateland; and 5 mobile distributions per month in La Paz County including, Quartzite, Bouse, Cibola, Ehrenberg, McMullen Valley and Parker.
Additionally, we partner with local agencies--such as shelters, congregate feeding programs, community-based organizations, and schools--to extend our reach and ensure consistent access for individuals who may not be able to travel to central distribution sites.
My abuser said I could never survive without him, but I knew I would never survive with him. So, I left. As a working, single mother of two, the support I receive from the Yuma Community Food Bank helps make sure that my kids have food on the table each and every day. That is comforting to my soul. That supports my goal of creating a healthy and loving environment for my family. That supports my goal of never going back. Thank you to everyone who supports the Food Bank. You may not know it, but it does way more than simply put food on the table. ~J.S.
You know how they say no person should have to choose between medicine, rent and food? Well, I am one of those people. If it weren’t for the Food Bank, I’m not sure I would have food in my refrigerator. I have battled a fixed income, I have battled cancer, and I recently laid my beautiful daughter to rest after her own illness. I am glad I don’t have to battle hunger. I am truly thankful for what I receive and don’t know what I would do without your help. And, I know that I am not alone. I want to say thank you to everyone who helps support the Food Bank. At the end of the day, it is me you are supporting and I am grateful. ~Mary H.
I just want to say thank you for giving out turkeys. I really wanted to be able to give my 5 grandsons a Thanksgiving dinner. Because of you, I was able to do this. I was able to give them the kind of Thanksgiving dinner everyone talks about--maybe not as fancy and with so much food; but with a turkey that reminded us that it was a meal to give thanks for. To remember to count our blessings. To remember what should be most important to us--our time together as a family. ~Nelly
